Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Welding Technician in the Media, Trades and Technology Division, located at the Welland Campus. The starting hourly rate is $37.34/hr (Pay Band H - $37.34/hr to $43.18/hr) for a 35-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.


Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Trades, this exciting opportunity is an important role within the College that will provide highly specialized technical support to ensure efficient and safe operation of the welding and fabrication labs in the School of Trades.

Duties include:



Provide highly specialized technical skills and knowledge in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all equipment in the welding and fabrication shops Ensure the safe and proper performance of the equipment for students and faculty Requisition and maintain an adequate inventory of components and teaching related supplies required for laboratory activities in cooperation with faculty Work with program coordinator, faculty and college administration to determine the recommended technical specifications for equipment, tools and devices by the welding programs and contact vendors for pricing, availability and delivery Maintain all support hand tools and equipment that students require to ensure safe operation and availability when students require them Ensure that all Health and safety requirements are met in the weld labs Perform daily inspections of and preventive maintenance on the systems to support the welding labs such as the compressor, dust collector and ventilation system and the gas system Set up the weld lab for specialized activities, testing and/or certifications Stay up-to-date with technology trends and advancements through publications, journals and trade shows


Qualifications:



Certificate of Qualification (C of Q), CWB Welding Certification or equivalent industry certifications in a related discipline such as Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, Industrial Electrician, Tool and Die Maker or General Machinist Minimum of five (5) years of trade-related experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing industrial machinery and the integrated systems that support welding and fabrication environments, including power distribution, ventilation, gas delivery, and safety controls Solid knowledge of industry safety protocols Possess excellent verbal and written communication


This position is open to internal employees and external applicants. External applicants will not be reviewed until all eligible internal employees have been considered. The first consideration for internal employees shall be five (5) business days from the opening date. Internal employees are those classified as full-time permanent within the Full-Time Support Staff bargaining unit, regular part-time (RPT) employees who have completed probation, and Appendix D employees with six consecutive months of Appendix D service with the College at the time of posting.
