Responsible to the Director of Operations, Manager of Planning and Production and Project Managers for total quality of welding and fabricating operations.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining certification of CMI Heavy Industry's code status, welders and equipment.
Ensure that all health and safety policies and procedures are followed. Maintains high plant morale through recognition of jobs well done.
Responsibilities and Duties
General Duties
Ensures that all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to, within the plant environment, according to company requirements and the occupational health and safety act
Follow company processes and procedures
Use and maintain production control boards as it pertains to area of quality control.
Attend daily Kanban meetings with the pertinent daily information acquired from the production control boards and morning huddles
Plans and directs all quality related activities as it pertains to fitting welding
Reviews all travellers prior to release to floor to ensure proper quality checkpoints and instructions are present
Assesses job travellers for quality risks and plan and executes mitigation plans
Arrives to work prior to the normal scheduled day shift to assess and plan daily quality activites
Responsible for recommending disciplinary reprimands of employees disregarding instructions pertaining to quality requirements, plant policies or procedures and health and safety
Oversees training and teaching of new plant hires and apprentices with respect to the quality program
Conducts fitup and inprocess inspections to mitigate non-quality
Interfaces with other team members and outside contractor and services for NDE and QA objectives.

Welding Quality Program Related
Ensures the requirements of welding certifications are maintained by the operations
Establishes new quality programs to achieve certifications of code programs governed by ASME, AWS, API etc.
Maintains in house programs and certifications of welders
Schedules auditing of the quality programs as necessary
Redesigns company specifications and updates quality standards as necessary
Welding Technical Support
Acts as a welding resource to project management and the weld shop supervisor
Establishes ITP's, weld maps or other quality related documents for project management as necessary for production related work or proposal generation
Identifies non-standard requirements identifying welding, NDE, QA processes that have cost impacts
Provide support to ensure that all welding, NDE and QA deliverables meet the technical requirements set forth by contract documents and customer requirements.
Works with project management, director of operations or the welding supervisor to develop WPDS for operations.
Responsible in a hands-on role for PQR testing and first off of manufacturing program
Position Requirements
5 + years experience in a Welding QA or Supervisory position
Diploma or Degree in a Manufacturing related discipline
A complete understanding of the requirements and management of programs certified under CWB W47.1/W59
A working knowledge of other code programs such as ASME, AWS, API, DNV
Ability to read and fully comprehend complicated drawings and blueprints
Familiarity with technical requirements of welding
Must be a team player with good communication skills
Must appreciate and acknowledge working responsibilities and authorities within the organization.
Be familiar with ISO 9001 documentation requirements
Be familiar with the Health and Safety Rules and Regulations
