As a Welding Production Supervisor, you'll lead safe, efficient, and timely completion of refit and repair work. You'll plan projects, oversee staffing, and ensure work meets schedule, budget, and customer requirements--all while upholding shipyard safety, quality, and environmental standards. Through strong leadership of chargehands, you'll drive productivity, maintain high-quality results, and support continuous process improvement within the welding department.

What You'll Do



Plan & Allocate Work

- Assign welders to projects based on schedules, skill levels, and priorities. Ensure adequate staffing and equipment are in place

Lead Teams

- Supervise and mentor chargehands, guide their teams, and provide training support to develop skills and maintain high performance.

Monitor Projects

- Track progress through all stages of construction, ensuring work meets Seaspan's welding quality metrics, procedures, and codes.

Coordinate Across Trades

- Work closely with other trade supervisors, superintendents, and stage managers to minimize delays and maximize efficiency.

Ensure Safety

- Promote a strong safety culture, conduct inspections, and address issues immediately. Lead safe return-to-work plans for injured employees.

Maintain Quality Standards

- Validate work against drawings, technical specifications, and contract requirements; escalate issues when needed.

Drive Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, cost efficiency, and safety performance.

Support Estimating & Planning

- Provide input on project estimates, validate budgets, and assist with technical requirements for upcoming projects.

What You'll Bring



5+ years' experience supervising welding or trade workers in shipbuilding or large manufacturing Grade 12 + post-secondary training in a trade (apprenticeship/advanced training an asset) Strong knowledge of welding methods, materials, and inspection standards CSA 47.1 Supervisor and CSA 178.2 qualifications preferred Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications Familiarity with ABS, Lloyds Register, and vessel classification standards (an asset) Proven leadership, coaching, and problem-solving skills Strong communication skills with workers, management, and customers
