The welding inspector will be set up as a contractor and be contacted when work is available. The work duration could be a day or several days or several weeks.
The inspector will be required to sign an independent contractor agreement with SGS North America Inc.
Work will be assigned on as needed basis and will be paid for the hours/days and other applicable cost items for the hours/days spent on the assigned work.
The responsibilities for this role are:
Ensures the quality and safety of welded structures by verifying that welds meet specific codes, standards, and specifications.
Responsibilities include inspecting welds, reviewing welding procedures, and conducting visual and dimensional inspections
Examining completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards.
Checking Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welder qualifications.
Using visual aids and tools to identify defects and ensuring welds meet specified dimensions
Performing visual inspections and using non-destructive testing (NDT) methods
Observing welders and preheating procedures
Recording inspection results and any non-conformities
Investigating non-conformities i.e. identifying causes and assisting in corrective actions.
Ability to communicate effectively with welders, engineers, and other personnel.
Qualifications
The candidates
must have
at least one of the following certification:
API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector Certification; OR
API 570 Piping Inspector Certification; OR
CWB W178.2 Level II or III Welding Inspector Certification with B31.1, B31.3, W47, W59, ASME VIII-1 & IX Code Endorsements.
Must have a minimum a minimum of five (5) years as a Welding Inspector.
Minimum of 3-4 years Shop / vendor surveillance experience
Understanding of welding processes, codes and standards
Ability of identify weld imperfections using visual aids
Experienced in inspecting welds on various manufactured products eg. pipelines, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other equipment
Experienced in witnessing NDE test (UT, PT, MT, RT, etc..) and verifying test reports
Industrial experience in Oil & gas / Power & Utility / Construction / Manufacturing, would be an asset.
Work schedule: Intermittent/ When and where required.
Pay Rate: $45-$50/hr plus reimbursement for km's at $0.70/km.
