Job Description

We are hiring a Welder/Fitter to join our team in Hamilton serving the Hamilton, Ontario region.

In this role, you will be responsible for welding, fabricating, fitting, and assembling pipe spools, field-site piping systems, fittings, vessels and structural steel components that are required for repair, retrofit and installation projects. The scope of work includes boiler piping and HVAC piping systems, Miscellaneous and structural steel components, etc.

Key Responsibilities:



Pressure Welding and Fitting

oRead and interpret blueprints and drawings accurately to independently execute assigned jobs and tasks according to specifications.

oFit pipes according to provided drawings and field measurements.

oUse bandsaws and power tools to cut pipes to the correct size.

oPrepare welds by grinding or cutting as required.

oPerform welding operations following gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, or gas tungsten arc welding procedures and processes.

oEvaluate equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods.

oClean welds using grinders and/or wire wheels as necessary.

oUse torches to perform hot bends on tubes, pipes and plate.

oPrioritize assigned jobs and order required steps to meet established deadlines.

oCollaborate with the Foreman and project team to troubleshoot design and other difficulties.

oPerform other duties as required.

Fabrication & Installation

oEnsure accuracy of drawings and layouts to maximize operational efficiency and minimize rework.

oLay out and cut materials safely using the appropriate tools and equipment.

oCut and fit steel using bandsaws and grinders.

Measure and assemble materials according to blueprint and drawing instructions.

oPerform welding as required using gas metal arc and shielded metal arc welding processes.

oFinish assembled parts with grinders and wire wheels.

oSafely lift and manage materials and finished products throughout the fabrication process.

oTravel to job sites with other technicians to install fabricated spools and on-site piping.

oInstall and repair mechanical piping systems with connections to welded pipe systems.

oInstall and repair structural steel components as per job specifications.

oPerform other duties as required.

oMonitor the work environment for hazards and maintain proper ventilation to prevent inhalation of particles or gases.

oUse personal protective equipment correctly and maintain engineered controls such as guards.

oReport any potential hazards--such as faulty equipment or hazardous conditions--to management immediately.

oMaintain good housekeeping standards in all workspaces.

oPerform other duties as required.

Training, Experience, and Qualifications



oBasic math skills and strong mechanical aptitude are required.

oDemonstrated proficiency in GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) processes and procedures.

oSolid understanding of welding symbols.

oKnowledge of cutting and fabrication processes.

oFamiliarity with industry safety practices.

oAbility to set up and operate welding equipment, bevel machines, and bandsaws.

oAbility to read and comprehend prints, drawings, and technical bulletins.

oAbility to interpret manuals.

oConfidence in using a range of tools, machinery, and computer technology, including welding and fabrication equipment, oxyacetylene torches, grinders, and bandsaws.
