Position Overview





The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for heavy industrial fabrication and welding to specifications, performing fit-up and layout, and supporting equipment assembly when required. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality, accurate, and safe builds that meet Rockford's engineering standards. The ideal candidate is a certified welder with strong fabrication skills, attention-to-detail, positive attitude, and past assembly experience to collaborate across departments to meet project demands.

Key Responsibilities



Welding & Fabrication





Interpret and follow fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and bill of materials. Perform fit-up, layout, clamping, and alignment of components within tolerance. Weld using approved CWB/CSA processes (GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, or GTAW as applicable). Apply sound welding practices to ensure penetration, consistency, and quality. Conduct in-process visual inspection and grinding/finishing of welds. Prepare material through cutting, beveling, grinding, and cleaning surfaces before welding.



Assembly Support & Material Handling





Assist with mechanical assembly, alignment, and fastening of equipment. Support hydraulic and pneumatic system installation (hoses, cylinders, valves) Forklift operation. Safety rig, lift and position heavy components using cranes and rigging equipment.



Quality, Safety & Compliance





Follow Rockford and OH&S safety policies at all times. Maintain required safety certifications. Perform equipment checks, use safe rigging practices, and maintain PPE in good condition. Support quality control by reporting defects, discrepancies and materials issues promptly.



Qualifications





Journeyperson Welder certification considered an asset. Minimum 3 years' experience in heavy industrial welding or fabrication. Proficient in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols. Knowledge of CSA and CWB welding standards. Understanding of Lean processes and how they relate to engineered-to-order manufacturing. Forklift and/or overhead crane certification (or willingness to obtain). Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail. Ability to lift and handle materials/components safely. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid class 5 driver's license.
