to join our team for the summer months. A Weed Inspector is responsible for the weed inspections on public and private lands within Brazeau County, in accordance with the Alberta Weed Control Act and municipal policies.
This position offers four months of employment from May to August, with a great work life balance of evenings and weekends off, including statutory holidays. Our summer staff work forty hours per week, receive job and safety training, and are provided personal protective equipment.
If you enjoy being outside, are responsible to work with minimal supervision, interested to learn about vegetation management, comfortable approaching landowners, and have a high attention detail, this may be a great fit for you. Perhaps you are currently attending post-secondary or semi-retired and seeking summer work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify and record Prohibited Noxious and Noxious weeds on public and private lands within Brazeau County or as appointed
Keep detailed reports of inspections
Issue notices as required following the Alberta Weed Control Act and Regulations
Perform herbicide applications, in accordance with Brazeau County's Vegetation Management Program
To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department in order to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.
COMPETENCY AREAS:
Education/Training:
Currently pursuing post-secondary education is considered an asset.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licenses/Certifications/Designation:
Valid Class 5 Driver's License
Clean Driver's Abstract
Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Ability to perform physical labour
Must be able to work independently
Familiarity agriculture and the Alberta Weed Control Act is an asset
Knowledge to effectively and efficiently use Office 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
Possess strong written communication skills with accuracy and attention to detail
Effective communication skills and ability to interact with many different individuals in a professional manner
Successful candidate must be able to work for the entire period of the position.
