We\'re looking for a full-time web editor to cover news in Eastern Canada for CityNews.

CityNews is #1 for breaking news, traffic and weather and our Eastern stations, Halifax, Ottawa and Kitchener are looking for someone who can connect with our listeners on air and online! The news division of

Rogers Sports and Media includes CityNews radio, CityNews on TV and OMNI TV - we work as one dynamic team to deliver the most up to date and trusted information.

What you will do\xe2\x80\xa6

  • Write digital and on air news stories in all three markets, updating with the latest information as required
  • Source the best local and breaking news to drive PVs, UVs and engagement
  • Manage our social media feeds (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and send breaking news alerts as needed
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency and adherence to brand standards of all material on the websites (headlines, photos, captions, video, etc.)
  • Monitor and cross-post stories from our news partners, while keeping SEO, engagement, and brand guidelines top of mind
  • Work as the digital conduit with news reporters and anchors in the newsroom
  • Help out the audio teams with additional tasks including voicing content for air
What you will bring:
  • Degree in Journalism
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language and an ability to write accurate and engaging headlines
  • Capable of turning complex issues into clear, concise, news you can use copy under tight deadlines
  • Must be familiar with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
  • Knowledge of the Wordpress CMS, Adobe Photoshop and other applications in the Adobe Creative Suite
  • On air experience in a radio environment
  • Experience copy editing and proofreading written content
  • Experience with video editing and television production is an asset
  • Familiarity with Burli
