The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $72,242- $79,650 starting salary

determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: $93,951

salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. Job Summary

Mandate:

Working as part of a website project team tasked to redesign and launch the University Systems website, the Web Content Specialist is responsible for: Creating and converting technical support materials in a format for the web. These assets must be accessible and written in plain language to support a wide breadth of user personas. Documenting the process to draft and edit web content for a website redesign project team. Documenting the process to use interactive website elements that connect user requests with request intake processes. For example, the creation of an IT ticket.

This role requires an in-depth understanding of IT support processes at UVic and includes knowledge transfer for new team members in preparation for launching the new University Systems website and transitioning to operations

Objectives:

All University Systems IT support content meets WCAG 2.2AA accessibility standards. Document the process to assign the write, review, and publish cycle for website content and assign tasks to web writers and other project members. Technical content is placed where audiences will look for it based on evidence from audience research. Technical content is accurate and up-to-date based on consultation with subject matter experts. The University Systems website project team is trained on the content creation workflows, processes, and tasks to deliver on project scope. Documentation to support a transition to operations after the conclusion of the project is drafted. Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to

a degree in a writing or language-oriented discipline plus

minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in IT support and

a minimum of 3 years writing for accessible websites. Preference for a candidate with lived experience of disability or from an equity seeking group.


Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:


Expert level skills with Cascade CMS Templates 4 and UVic's SharePoint implementation. Demonstrated WCAG 2.2 AA web authoring skills and a passion for digital accessibility. In-depth experience and understanding of University Systems IT support materials, processes and service excellence goals. Can create a content strategy (including key messages, audiences, page descriptions/keywords, targets for reading level etc.) at the site, section, or page level with little or no direction using evidence gathered over 3 years of user research experience. Demonstrated ability to instruct, mentor, and guide junior web writers by setting content strategies, giving instructions, providing rough drafts, researching content sources, editing work, and providing actionable feedback in a timely way. Can review site governance tool and other analytics to determine best course of action to improve readability, accessibility, searchability and quality. Familiarity with the UVic style guide and ability to follow it when authoring and editing content. Ability to prioritize work and manage time spent on tasks to meet overarching deadlines. Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes. A plan for how to set up assets for large web projects, including which resources, processes and tools a web team requires.
