Job Summary
The TYLin Whitby, ON office is seeking a 4-month intern for Water and Wastewater projects. The successful candidate will participate in a variety of projects that encompass the full spectrum of administration, planning, analyses, design, and implementation of municipal works. This position is for a five (5) days in-office role and will report to a Project Engineer in Water and Wastewater team. The candidate will be provided with mentorship and training as required for the role.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
ResponsibilitiesCreating conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering drawings including Plan and Profiles through AutoCAD Civil3D, engineering reports, calculations, specifications and cost estimates for water and wastewater projects
Performing calculations and analysis using engineering formulas for design of sanitary and storm sewers, and watermains
Assisting the project team in delivering projects, and with the preparation of feasibility studies and functional plans
Assisting in applying for and obtaining the necessary permits and approvals to proceed with construction
Coordination with Suppliers and contractors for industry standards and shop drawings
Working on multiple projects simultaneously through different phases
Assisting with contract administration and construction inspection duties on project sites as required
Assisting with business development efforts including proposals and time task matrices
Additional responsibilities as assigned
QualificationsWorking towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline
Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation is an asset
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Strong attention to detail and ability to produce quality results.
Willingness to learn new software and ability to apply it
Capable of working both independently and in a team environment
Excellent organization, time management, and negotiation skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong technical writing skills
Ability to learn the approval process, including design guidelines and standards
Ability to learn the planning process and EA process
High levels of integrity, always doing the right thing in an ethical, fair, and sustainable way
Demonstrated experience of collaboration in a diverse and inclusive team, working together toward technical excellence
Ability to time manage and prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines
Experience with ArcGIS is an asset
Experience with Environmental Assessment is an asset
Class G License and use of own vehicle is an asset
