The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated

Wastewater Treatment Operator - Level III

to join our team and help maintain the safe and efficient operation of the Hemlock Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant. This key role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while applying industry best practices, and supports a team of operators and technicians in delivering reliable wastewater services.


As a Level III Operator, you'll perform hands-on operational work, oversee plant processes, and assist in mentoring junior staff. You will also support reporting, inspections, maintenance, and emergency response, all while ensuring our systems meet regulatory and internal standards.

What You Will Be Doing

Operate and monitor the Wastewater Treatment Plant in accordance with BC EOCP Level III standards Collect, record, and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and annual wastewater treatment data Interpret system results, respond to alarms, and troubleshoot operational issues Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all wastewater facilities and equipment Maintain accurate records and submit reports to provincial and federal authorities as required Assist in updating operational procedures and perform general maintenance on pumps, motors, electrical equipment, lift stations, and treatment facilities Provide guidance and mentorship to junior operators, supporting ongoing training and development Promote safe work practices, ensuring a clean and healthy work environment Provide operational support for water treatment, distribution, and wastewater collection systems as needed Respond to system alarms and emergencies, during and outside regular office hours Perform other duties as assigned by the Utilities Manager

What You Will Bring

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License EOCP Level III Certification in Wastewater Treatment (must be maintained in good standing) Strong mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation skills Experience operating heavy equipment (excavators, loaders, skid steers, etc.) Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment Strong organizational and documentation skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel Ability to act calmly and effectively in emergency situations Ability to meet physical demands of the role (lifting 50 lbs, standing, kneeling, climbing, confined space entry, etc.) Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and safe work procedures Commitment to fostering a respectful, safe, and inclusive work environment
