Reporting to the Supervisor of Lift Stations, you are responsible for the operations and maintenance of sanitary and storm lift stations, force mains, air valve maintenance and odor control sites in multiple locations throughout the city. In this position, you are required to work under a minimal amount of supervision where judgment must be exercised in making decisions and generating new solutions and strategies to solve operational and maintenance issues. Primary duties include:

Perform Lift station operation and maintenance. Provide emergency response during lift station failure, flooding and power outages. Provide and facilitate portable Emergency Lift Station (ELS) deployment and operation. Operate and maintain odour control sites. Perform inspection and maintenance of air valves and Chestermere force main. Provide excellent customer service for internal clients and the citizens of Calgary. Compliment the ongoing development and performance of Lift Stations Pump Operators including matters involving training and coaching. Monitor and maintain a safe and healthy work environment for lift station staff. Assign work and oversee the performance of subordinates, including timekeeping. Regularly deal with simultaneous demands which must be dealt with on the spot.





Qualifications

A High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) and Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) (or provincial equivalent). At least 4 years of experience working with wastewater collection. A valid Class 5 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending. Lift Station Design or Pump Design courses would be considered an asset. Lift Station experience would be considered an asset. Plumbing and/or electrical/mechanical experience would be considered assets. Ability and willingness to use software and desktop or remote devices. You have well-developed problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.

Note:

This position is required to rotate standby/on-call duties to respond to alarms, ELS deployment and emergencies.

Working Conditions:

This position may be exposed to odours, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dampness, untreated wastewater, and fumes. A portion of work is performed in an office environment.

A security clearance will be conducted. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
