As a Waste System Performance Engineer, you will perform in-depth research and analysis to advise the Waste & Recycling Services (WRS) management team on how to achieve strategic objectives and business goals. You will conduct technical options evaluations and develop medium and long-range waste reduction and management strategies, including strategies to adapt policies, services and facility design to meet the evolving needs of customers and a growing city. You will research emerging issues, trends, technologies and innovation in the waste sector that may impact WRS' ability to meet strategic waste management goals or provide new opportunities for service delivery. Primary duties include:

Develop strategies, policies and plans to support WRS business goals, including managing projects and performing technical options evaluations. Perform advanced data interpretation, analysis, computer modelling, forecasting and reporting to inform strategy and policy direction, facility and infrastructure design and operational programs. Engage and advise senior leadership about options to achieve WRS business goals and prepare and deliver reports to Council and Committees. Collaborate with experts across The City and represent WRS when engaging with customers, waste industry entities, other municipalities, and non-governmental organizations, and support advocacy to other orders of government on waste-related issues.


Qualifications

A degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and at least 5 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Experience must include developing strategy, conducting research, analyzing data, and providing recommendations and subject-matter expert advice to colleagues, senior management, and governance bodies such as City Council. Additional training or demonstrated experience in advanced data interpretation, analysis, computer modeling and forecasting is an asset. Previous experience working within a large, complex organization in matters of change management, relationship management, risk assessment, citizen engagement, bylaws, program reviews, and managing contracts is an asset. Workstyle

This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level P3E $113,200 - 141,500 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
