The Warming Centre Worker provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for individuals seeking shelter from extreme cold weather. This position is responsible for monitoring the space, assisting guests with basic needs, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and connecting individuals to additional supports and resources when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Welcome and register guests entering the warming centre in a respectful, non-judgmental manner.
Monitor the facility to ensure safety, comfort, and cleanliness.
Distribute food, beverages, blankets, and hygiene supplies as needed.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, conflicts, or crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
Enforce centre rules and maintain a calm, inclusive atmosphere.
Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and shift notes.
Work collaboratively with security staff, volunteers, and community service partners.
Support guests in accessing community resources (e.g., shelters, healthcare, outreach programs).
Perform light cleaning duties, including sanitizing surfaces and restocking supplies.
Uphold confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
1-2 years experience in a warming centre or related field.
College or University diploma
Human Services or;
Social worker or;
PSW, DSW or;
Addiction Counsellor or;
Related Field
