Under general supervision of the Supervisor, Operations and/or direction of Stockkeeper, employees are primarily engaged in materials handling activities required for the operation of the warehouse and assist in the control and management inventory.

Inventory management and control includes being involved in the work and administration processes relating to the handling of inventory transactions, keeping track of items stored in the warehouse, and the techniques used to balance inventory levels with present and forecasted needs, ensuring inventory accuracy is maximized through monitoring, analysis and investigation of discrepancies and participation in cycle counts of physical inventory.

Performs warehousing and distribution activities such as determining floor/space requirements, planning, scheduling and arranging for delivery of materials and equipment, proper assembly and handling of sales orders, sorting of returned materials, preparation of requisitions and expediting of material and equipment.

Performs material handling activities with the requirement to incorporate a number of related activities following accepted standards and practices to complete the work assignment. Usually, must integrate a number of sub-functions, i.e. releasing material on Oracle system, picking, packaging, documentation and arranging of transportation in order to complete the shipping of materials. May require the coordinating of available resources with priorities in order to complete the assignment.

What You Get to Do:

  • Receiving goods and materials that have been procured for current or future use and ensure all documentation is completed
  • Shipping goods and materials from the warehouse to other locations or on-site, ensuring all associated documents are completed and filed
  • Stripping and sorting all salvage material for disposal or sale and preparing returns of surplus goods or materials to suppliers
  • Maintaining the warehouse, yard and associated buildings in a clean and orderly condition
  • Filling and preparing orders for materials ordered for work orders ensuring that orders are input and recorded to the corresponding work orders
  • Performing cycle counts on a weekly/monthly or annual basis to ensure that stock levels are kept at an economic operating level
  • Operating and conducting pre-shifts on the materials handling equipment ie. Forklifts used in operating the warehousing facility
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through the issuing and returning of stock
  • Provide support to customers requesting materials and/or services at the warehouse counter
  • Assist with prioritizing material needs to meet deadlines and maximize productivity
  • Monitor and report on appropriate inventory levels including storage locations and service points under the direction of the Stockkeeper
  • Assist in inventory accuracy monitoring, analysis and investigation of discrepancies
  • Perform regularly scheduled cycle and/or annual inventory counts, as requested by, or in
  • the absence of the Stockkeeper
  • Perform and direct routine warehouse operation activities such as shipping, receiving,
  • picking, sorting, and assessing returns & salvage material and equipment in the absence of
  • the Stockkeeper
  • Determining appropriate locations to pick and ship material requirements as required
  • Performing administrative and related duties as required
  • Completing accurate data entry within PC based materials management software program
  • Some travel and out of town work may be required
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma.
  • Willingness and ability to complete courses in general warehousing and logistics certification
  • Certification in standard First Aid, TDG, and WHMIS
  • Trade related experience an asset
  • Working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel
  • Valid vehicle operators license
  • Proficiency and knowledge of Oracle
  • Experience in inventory software an asset

Whitehorse is a designated community and a comprehensive norther benefit package will be provided, including:
  • An additional 5% of base salary (northern allowance)
  • An additional $600 a month (northern allowance)
  • Additional 5 days' vacation for North of 60 positions
