collects, distributes and applies geoscience data and information to attract and guide mineral investment and to help inform broad provincial land-use planning decisions related to the environment, ecology, climate change and public health and safety.
The GeoServices Section
delivers chemical and physical analyses of inorganic materials at the Geoscience Laboratories; cartographic, editorial, and publication services of geoscience products; warehouse services, library and archiving services.

As the Warehouse, Archives, and Sample Preparation Technician, you will:
Prepare and coordinate samples for testing.
Schedule and operate lab equipment and tests.
Perform routine analytical tests and equipment maintenance.
Manage equipment and supply procurement, transport, and disposal.
Maintain accurate inventory and asset records.
Retrieve and return archived materials.
Oversee fleet maintenance and replacement.
Guide staff on equipment use, care, and safety procedures.
Support staff and students with standard operating and safety protocols.
What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements
You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical expertise:
knowledge of established laboratory procedures, standards and techniques as well as sample preparation equipment to ensure proper preparations of samples
full knowledge and understanding of the use and application of quality assurance and quality control procedures and practices in a laboratory setting
knowledge of and the ability to apply relevant legislation policies and procedures (Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), laboratory safety procedures, safe handling of chemicals, and proper disposal of hazardous material)
understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017
Warehousing and maintenance knowledge and skills:
knowledge of warehouse methods, control practices and operating procedures including purchasing, records keeping, scheduling, inventory and asset control to provide technical and administrative warehouse services
experience shipping and receiving goods in a warehouse environment
knowledge of equipment operation and repairs such as ATVs, generators, chainsaws and boat motors
ability to operate passenger vehicles, fork-lifts, all-terrain vehicles, boats, chainsaws, generators, tents, etc. and provide advice for repair and maintenance
experience in the proper care and winter storage of field equipment and supplies
knowledge of operating procedures to support the archiving services
knowledge of health and safety policies, practices, procedures and standards
Organizational and time management skills:
proven organizational skills to schedule and prioritize your work to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently
demonstrated organizational skills to arrange procurement, maintenance, disposal and replacement of equipment and maintaining up to date and accurate records
ability to organize and locate required information in support of administrative responsibilities and arrange procurement, maintenance, disposal and replacement of equipment
Analytical skills and judgement:
analytical, evaluative skills and logic when preparing samples for analysis and to resolve problems including evaluating the impacts, cost implications and consumption of resources to determine appropriate dissolution/digestion methods and to improve the quality of results achieved
good judgment skills to select the appropriate analysis for samples
ability to effectively record and report analytical data
strong evaluative and problem-solving skills to recognize inconsistencies in project archive materials, evaluate equipment condition and develop solutions or options
Communication and interpersonal skills:
communication and interpersonal skills to respond to inquiries and to effectively deal with staff and vendors and provide leadership to temporary help during peak periods
proven written communications skills to prepare reports and correspondence
Computer skills:
demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and a variety of software such as word processing, databases and spreadsheet to maintain a warehouse database system, track maintenance and replacement schedules, and maintain and update inventory and asset lists
