Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager of Perioperative Services, the Ward Clerk is the primary point of contact for Perioperative Services and cordinates flow of patients and information through all areas. The Ward Clerk is responsible for fielding telephone calls, directing visitors and will coordinate any changes of the operating room schedule; such as daily bookings from Surgeons for Emergency / Trauma cases and notifying team members of any issues regarding immediate action.

The successful incumbent organizes and prepares statistical reports for the Operating Room Surgical cases for Eastern Zone (start/finish times, cancellations, emergency bookings, etc). This position also includes creating purchase requisitions, data entry through SAP, and maintaining accurate documentation of implants / records within the Surgical Care Unit. They will be responsible for the daily ordering of case carts, as well as collaboration with Health Records / IT Information System to ensure reporting mechanisms are accurate and appropriate. The Ward Clerk will prioritize needs, handle matters expeditiously, proactively following through on projects. Must also perform other related duties as requested.

Qualifications

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12 plus graduation from a recognized one year secretarial or office administration course
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in the last three (3) years in the clerical field; perioperative experience preferred
  • Medical Terminology course required
  • Demonstrated skills in computer programs and data entry
  • Experience in Systems Applications and Products (SAP) with requisition creation preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of contacting, including peers, senior management, frontline staff, physicians, vendors and patients/families
  • High level of organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and requests at once
  • Excellent problem solving skills, particularly with technical issues (troubleshooting, developing solutions)
  • Ability to maintain a high level confidentiality is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Permanent, full-time position; 70 hours bi-weekly

Salary Information

$20.09 - $21.90 hourly
