About The South Huron Hospital Association (SHHA):
We serve the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities--a catchment area of approximately 19,000 residents. The hospital is located in the village of Exeter, approximately 30 minutes north of London, and provides 24/7 emergency services in addition to acute, rehabilitation and complex continuing care inpatient services and various diagnostic and ambulatory services. Our staff also supports family practice and walk-in care at the South Huron Medical Centre. Position Overview:
The Ward Clerk, Inpatient Nursing Unit is responsible for coordinating department communication and completing administrative tasks on the unit. This position involves being scheduled weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays (day shifts). Specific duties include:
Call-ins for staffing and scheduling
Answer telephones
Booking tests, procedures, follow-up appointments and transportation
Anticipating and preparing for patient discharges- i.e.; medication reconciliation forms
Ordering basic office supplies
Completing weekly time sheets and payroll coding
Printing daily assignment sheets
Maintaining a filing system
Attending daily interdisciplinary rounds and communicating information as required
Checking daily for repatriations and manage as instructed
Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team
Maintaining and performing other clerical duties, as necessary and/or as requested
Requirements and Qualifications:
Current Ward Clerk experience preferred
Secondary School diploma required
Health Care Office Assistant Certification or equivalent experience required
Knowledge and use of OneChart system preferred
Applied knowledge with ONA and Unifor scheduling language preferred
Computer skills in a Windows-based environment
Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology
Understands and practices good body mechanics
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Demonstrated pattern of good attendance
Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers, and other members of the community and public
Current Police Check/Vulnerable Sector Screen and immunization status (including COVID-19 vaccination) required upon hire.
Experience, Skill and Abilities:
Excellence in verbal and written communication skills
Ability to organize work effectively and establish priorities
Shows initiative and self-direction
Immunization Records:
Successful candidates must provide evidence of fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work. Any candidate entering the facility to attend an interview will be required to provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status. To be considered fully immunized, individuals need to have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days earlier than the date they arriving to an interview or to begin work at SHHA.
