About the Role:
Reporting to the COO, the VP Asset Management and Capital Development is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, management, and maintenance of the organization's physical assets, including buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
This role ensures that the facilities are safe, efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with the YMCA's strategic goals. The VP supervises the Facilities Manager and his team of Facility Operators. The VP of Facilities works closely with senior leadership to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
The VP will participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and establish relationships both within the organization, and with key vendors/contractors..
Responsibilities:
Capital Planning
+ Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy for the maintenance, upgrades, and modernization of YMCA Northern Alberta facilities,
+ Oversee the creation and implementation of short- and long-term capital asset and project plans, covering all phases from planning and construction to renovation and operational handover.
+ Provide strategic support to VPs responsible for programming, ensuring that asset management and capital projects meet operational goals and enhance service delivery.
+ Oversee the RFP and RFQ processes for capital projects and expenditures, ensuring transparency, compliance, and value optimization.
+ Incorporate risk management practices to ensure capital projects and assets are resilient to financial, operational, and environmental uncertainties.
Operational Excellence
+ Manage day-to-day operations of all facilities, ensuring optimal function and minimal downtime.
+ Oversee the maintenance of YMCA properties and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
+ Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce equipment failure and improve operational efficiency.
+ Ensure all pools and facilities are compliant with health and safety regulations including local fire codes, emergency and exit plans, accessibility, and other relevant building and maintenance legislation.
+ Negotiate and manage contracts with external vendors, service providers, and contractors for maintenance, cleaning, security, and other facilities-related services.
+ Works with the General Managers and Asset Team to ensure a safe, clean and well-maintained culture for all facilities.
Budget
+ Guide and proactively manage their budgets to maximize both contribution to financial and mission goals.
+ Operate within the guidelines of the current budget.
+ Prepare capital department budget figures for input into the annual budget and other reporting requirements.
+ Review financial statements on an ongoing basis to monitor for significant changes and modify operations as requiredsert bullet points on specific role duties
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with experience in a related field. (Engineering, business management or project management)
Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent certifications in asset management is desirable.
Current and clear Security Clearance
Valid Driver's License and vehicle
Strong leadership and management abilities.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with senior leadership and stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to influence, build trust, and create collaborative and effective working relationships with various partners externally and internally Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, and cost control.
Strong understanding of sustainability practices and energy-efficient technologies.
Business computer skills and experience with Asset Management software an asset.
