Student-at-Large Positions for Students' Council CommitteesABOUT THE ROLEThank you for your interest in becoming a Student-at-Large on one or more of our Students Council run committees. This is a volunteer position on a student governance committee from May 2025 to April 2026. While this is an unpaid role, student committee members will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions and develop transferable skills. This position will be selected and adjudicated by the Council Administration Committee of Students' Council.EXPECTATIONS AND TIME COMMITMENTCommittees will meet approximately twice a month*. The meeting schedule is subject to change based on the availability of committee members. Committee members are expected to attend as many meetings as possible, and carefully review all meeting materials in advance so they can make informed decisions.*Committees marked with this (*) symbol may meet once a month rather than twice month.QUALIFICATIONSApplicants must be University of Alberta undergraduate students registered in at least one course for credit in the Fall and Winter semesters of the 2025/26 academic year. The committee makes recommendations to Students' Council on Students' Union political policies, which guide the advocacy efforts of the UASUs executives and Student Representative Associations (SRAs). The committee also receives reports from the Executive Committee on its policy activities and evaluates their effectiveness. The Standing Orders for this committee can be found . Experience in policy making is considered an asset. Two SAL positions exist on the Policy Committee.ABOUT FINANCE COMMITTEEThe Finance Committee is responsible for developing policy and disbursing grants from numerous funds including student group funds and the Access Fund. The committee also oversees the Students' Union awards program, recommends the annual operating budget of the Students' Union to Students' Council, as required by Students' Union legislation, and makes recommendations on alterations to the budget. Two SAL positions exist on the Finance Committee.ABOUT ABORIGINAL AND RELATIONS AND RECONCILIATION COMMITTEEUnlike other committee SAL positions, this position will be selected and adjudicated by the Indigenous Students' Union (ISU). Three SAL positions exist on the ARRC Committee.ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEEThe Sustainability Committee helps guide the UASU's sustainability practices in the areas of governance, operations, services, advocacy, and events. Up to four SALs may serve on this committee.ABOUT STUDENTS UNION BUILDING (SUB) PLANNING COMMITTEE*Called the 'living room of campus,' the Students Union Building (SUB) is a hub of student activity and home to many of the UASUs businesses and services. Whether in need of a cup of coffee, a place to print your notes, or a place to study, SUB is the building that caters to the student experience. Members of this committee have a variety of responsibilities connected to how SUB meets student needs. The Standing Orders for this committee can be found . There is a total of three SAL positions on this committee. At least one of the students-at-large on this committee must be an Indigenous student, so First Nations, Mxc3xa9tis, and/or Inuit students are encouraged to apply.
