Building a community of hope since 1987, we would like to invite you to join our journey. Siloam Mission is currently seeking a casual Volunteer Services Support Staff.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Volunteer Services and working at the front desk of Siloam Mission, this position welcomes and assists volunteers as they come for their shift and answers general questions from volunteers and the public about volunteering at Siloam Mission. This position will create positive volunteer experiences and enhance the care provided to volunteers on a more person level.

POSITION DUTIES

Working with Volunteers

Welcoming volunteering as they come for their shifts and assist them with any questions they have or help they may need;
Answer general questions about volunteering at Siloam Mission from volunteers or the public, in-person, through email, or over the phone:
Provide orientation to new volunteers;
When needed, host volunteer groups in Clothing Sorting;
Conduct tours for volunteer groups, individuals, donors, and community members;
Ensure policies are followed by all volunteers;
Work alongside volunteers in the different available areas to create an atmosphere of care and appreciation for volunteers;
Advocate on behalf of volunteers and volunteerism at Siloam Mission.

Administrative

Update volunteer sites, profiles, and schedules as needed;
Answer emails, phone calls, and voicemails;
Track volunteers, their experiences and their hours using Volunteer Services data systems.

Working with other Departments

Liaise between Volunteer Services and all other departments involved with volunteering and providing support by;
Providing introduction of new volunteers to their supervisors;
Conduct informal follow-ups;
Aide departments in volunteer-related issues;
Alert Volunteer Coordinators when a volunteer shortage appears imminent;
Assist other departments when there is a shortage of volunteers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Must have a heart for the disadvantaged community that we work with;
Relevant training such as NVCI, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, First Aid/CPR, Volunteer Management Level 102, CVA Certification an asset.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIOURS

Ability to type 35 words per minute have a good knowledge of Microsoft Applications;
Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills;
Ability to speak in public and lead tours;
Demonstrate ability to work as a part of a team;
Physically active and able to stand for long periods of time;
Outgoing attitude;
Flexibility and ability to quickly adapt;
Demonstrate accountability, take initiative, and problem-solve;
Multi-task and function under stressful conditions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Hours of work: Shift times are 7:45 am - 2 pm or 4:14 - 8:30 pm, Sunday through Saturday. Hours and shifts worked per week is dependent as position is casual.
Some lifting of up to 50 lbs when organizing events for volunteers (optional);
Office environment.
