Volunteer Grief and Bereavement Facilitator



Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Facilitator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in guiding individuals through various therapeutic processes, utilizing their expertise providing mental health support and related fields. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering a supportive environment for clients, helping them achieve their personal goals through effective therapeutic practices.

Responsibilities

Commitment & Availability:



Must be able to commit in advance to facilitating a full support group cycle from start to finish. Attend all scheduled sessions to maintain group consistency and trust. Be reliable and punctual for each session. Some flexible availability, depending on program needs. Attend mandatory initial training provided by the organization. Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and debriefing sessions as required. Stay informed about best practices in grief support and group facilitation.

Technical & Administrative Skills:



Comfortable using technology for virtual meetings (Zoom, Teams, etc.). Ability to use email, online resources, and digital communication tools effectively. Maintain attendance records and provide feedback to the coordinator as required.

Group Facilitation & Support:



Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive space for participants. Maintain professional boundaries while offering compassionate support. Address group dynamics, conflicts, or emotional distress appropriately. Recognize when participants may need referrals.

Confidentiality & Ethical Standards:



Must uphold strict confidentiality of all participants. Adhere to the organization's policies, values, and ethical guidelines. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse grief experiences.

Mandatory Training (Provided & Required Completion):



Facilitators will receive comprehensive training to ensure they feel confident and prepared for their role. The following training programs are mandatory and must be completed:

HPCO (Hospice Palliative Care Ontario) Training (24-30 hrs) SCHC Facilitator Training (6 hours) SCHC Grief & Bereavement Training (2 hours)
This training is fully provided by the organization and equips facilitators with essential skills in grief support, group dynamics, and effective facilitation techniques.

Requirements



A certificate, diploma or degree in psychology, social work, or a related field is required; relevant certifications are preferred. Experience with group therapy or group facilitation programs. Familiarity with the Zoom platforms and the ability to conduct remote sessions effectively. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to facilitate clear interactions with clients and team members. Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants. Passion for helping others improve their mental health and overall well-being.
