Videographer, Whitehorse
This role requires full time on site presence.
CBC North is looking for a talented and creative videographer to work out of our Whitehorse station. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical knowledge of Sony shoulder-mount ENG videocameras, handheld camcorders and mirrorless/SLR cameras (PXW-Z750, PXW-Z280, FX3), excellent video editing skills (Adobe Premiere), a positive attitude in our newsroom, be proactive/organized, always reliable with deadlines, willing to travel to small communities for assignments, work evenings/weekends as needed and enjoy problem solving in the field.
Function: Videographer performs tasks as a specialist in production, contributing creatively to programming by frequently composing distinctive visuals within the scope and time constraints of the program -- including stills. Works primarily in news, sports and current affairs. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC or industry standards but there is latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative while always respecting CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices. Duties are performed under the direction of the assignment producer, but there may be requirements to work without immediate supervision at times.
Work is normally performed under high pressure serving television newscasts, live specials, social media, FAST channels, CBC News Network, video for our websites and providing audio to radio news/current affairs programs.
Key Tasks: Prepares, aligns and sets up field cameras ensuring optimum visual and technical quality under prevailing conditions. Lights the subject or scene, composes and records program material using a shoulder-mounted or handheld camera. Ensures both visual and aural material meets technical and aesthetic requirements for editing. Delivers all recorded materials including shot-lists as required. Edits material to broadcast standards for video, audio mix and levels.
In the field, performs simple maintenance of equipment. Drives a motor vehicle on a daily basis. Performs all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent or lower classification.
