Your role

CBC North is seeking a skilled video producer to join our visual storytelling team. You have a deep drive to find and reflect stories that move people, touching both hearts and minds.You strive to learn and bring understanding of underrepresented and diverse communities across the Yukon at a time of significant social, cultural and economic change. Ideally, you\xe2\x80\x99ll have demonstrated experience with a range of visual and digital storytelling genres.You are also knowledgeable about effective strategies for digital and social platforms as they evolve.You\xe2\x80\x99re fluent in what works (and what doesn\xe2\x80\x99t) online and you\xe2\x80\x99re keen to make content that grows audiences and increases engagement and loyalty. You\xe2\x80\x99ve also got experience and intuition about what works and what could work for streaming services and fast-paced, live video programming.

Under the general direction of CBC Yukon editorial leadership and in collaboration with the Senior Producer of Video in Yellowknife \xe2\x80\x93 the North\xe2\x80\x99s video broadcast hub \xe2\x80\x93 you will work closely with our content teams to be a reliable and thoughtful resource for them. You\xe2\x80\x99ll also have the ability to take initiative, to work and create independently as you research, gather, package, deliver and distribute stories on a consistent basis for CBC\xe2\x80\x99s platforms, including social media, digital, radio, and television, CBC Explore and CBC GEM.

Under the department of CBC News work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices but there is latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity.

You will be required to work a variety of shifts, including some evenings and weekends. Travel to Yukon communities will be an important part of this position.

Main responsibilities:

Conceive, pitch and develop original story ideas and concepts including researching, writing, shooting, generating, and/or editing of visual, audio and text material and ensures that perspectives from diverse and underrepresented communities are considered

Help to determine or influence the editorial direction of a story.

Determine the visual style, pace, tempo, and format of the story item relative to each multimedia platform.

Lead the development of new production methods using contemporary visual storytelling trends, practices, tools and techniques, to continually improve CBC\xe2\x80\x99s content and best practices.

Collaborate and coordinate with other CBC content teams, finding ways to provide material that can also be turned around in other formats, including audio and text.

Perform location surveys and identify special requirements such as audio, lighting, camera angles, and equipment, including production limitations.

Prepare, align, sets up, and operate small format, cinema, and traditional broadcast cameras and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal visual, audio, and technical quality under prevailing conditions for multiple platforms and deadlines.

Ingest, transcode, and/or process images to improve overall quality or for specific creative effect within JSP guidelines.

Innovate and perform highly creative content gathering techniques for complex situations.

Provide technical guidance, expertise, and support, focused on content production techniques and workflows.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

A demonstrated understanding of the Yukon and pan-Northern political and cultural landscapes.

Proven record of highly creative, innovative visual storytelling.

Demonstrated skills in producing, shooting, and editing visual content at a high level with a digital mindset.

Superior level of technical knowledge and understanding of visual gathering, visual production, and post-production methods with a focus on compelling narratives

A portfolio of work demonstrating fluency as a visual journalist and experience working with video, camera and audio equipment, both with shooting and editing

Experience reflecting diverse and contemporary communities.

Strong sense of creativity, initiative, and a high degree of responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work throughout the complete production cycle.

Professional photography skills and experience in journalism are an asset.

Skills and experience with motion graphics and compositing are an asset.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and client service skills are required.

Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a professional attitude.

Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to pursue the acquisition of story elements with a minimum of supervision.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Graduation from University or Community College in a relevant course of study or equivalent industry experience.

Minimum 5 years of directly related experience.

Ability and willingness to work overtime and various shifts patterns, including overnights and weekends, as required.

Possession of a valid driver\'s license and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/RadioCanada\'s insurance company.
