If you are the right person for this role, you are independent, resourceful and driven by curiosity. You are comfortable talking to anyone and you seek out a range of perspectives in your coverage. You make cold calls daily and maintain relationships with a long list of contacts. You bring newsy and original ideas to the table and you know how to use investigative tools. The successful candidate will also be a creative thinker who brings original ideas and treatments to the newsroom, and have demonstrated skills in shooting and editing news for streaming and social media platforms, including TikTok and Youtube. You will understand the diverse and changing population in British Columbia, and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content.Reporting to the Executive Producer of News you will operate as part of the daily story hub news team to research, gather, package content for CBC digital, television, streaming and social platforms, although you\xe2\x80\x99ll file stories for radio and online, too.Under the general direction of an Executive Producer or delegate, you will operate independently, or as part of a program unit to research, gather, package and present material for all platforms. Work is governed by CBC journalistic and programming policies and standards. Advice and guidance are regularly available but initiative and independent judgment are essential. There may be opportunities to coordinate the work of others.At CBC Vancouver we work as one station. Although you will work in the newsroom, you will be expected to work closely with the radio current affairs programs to ensure that the best of your work is shared widely with the audience.Key Tasks:Writes for a variety of platforms including digital, social media, radio and televisionGathers compelling, high-quality video, photographs, and audio on scene in a variety of situationsMonitors developing news through a variety of sourcesArranges and conducts interviewsDevelops and maintains relationships with a wide variety of key sourcesEdits material for use on all platformsStays on top of the latest social media tools to find contacts and story ideaDecides which elements should be included in a story, their order, length and sequence, as well as the method of transition from one element to another.Prepares, aligns, sets up and operates various camera equipment, ensuring optimal video, audio and technical quality under prevailing conditions.Lights the subject or scene and composes program visual material using a hand-held camera.
