Job Summary:

The Victims of Racism Support Worker, a role with a profound impact on our community, will report to the DEARs Supervisor and work closely with the Abbotsford Local Immigration Partnership's (ALIP) Community Coordinator. This position will be responsible for assisting racialized individuals victimized by incidents of racism and other forms of discrimination, including helping them unpack their experiences, assess the impacts of incidents, offer culturally and trauma-informed support, and redirect such individuals for further external support. A key component to this position is the importance of creating a judgement-free and psychologically safe space for victims to be able to reclaim their voice and process the impacts of racism.

Your Role:

Receiving referrals from United Way's Helpline and contacting the referred clients. Calling the clients and inviting them to the office and engaging in meaningful conversations to disentangle the impacts of the experiences/incidences on the individual. Employing trauma-informed and culturally competent approaches when engaging with victims of racism incidents. Ensuring that judgement-free and psychologically safe spaces are created for the victimized individuals to enable them to express their feelings and views and empower them to reclaim their voice and agency. Demonstrating that it is crucial for the Victims of Racism Support Worker to have a solid understanding of how systemic/institutional racism shapes interpersonal experiences. Coordinating and gathering communities and individuals impacted by racism to workshops, and facilitating conversations conducive to reconciliation, allyship, and collective healing, inspiring positive change and growth.

Wage: $30.00 per hour A part-time position at 31 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Temporary until March 31, 2026.

Getting an Interview - you will be considered if you have:

Hold a bachelor's degree in humanities or social sciences or possess relevant professional experience and lived experience. Knowledge in areas such as Canadian Multiculturalism, Community Development, Canadian Politics, Social Work, Counselling, Anti-Oppressive Practices, and Indigenous History. A minimum of one year of experience working with and interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of additional languages is an asset. Ability to communicate ideas to individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Facilitate engaging trauma-informed workshops and conversations.

The Job Requires you to have:

Canadian Politics, Social Work, Counselling, Anti-Oppressive Practices, and Indigenous History. A minimum of one year of experience working with and interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of additional languages is an asset. Ability to communicate ideas to individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to facilitate engaging trauma-informed workshops and conversations. This position may interact with people facing unique and insurmountable challenges, resulting in feelings of powerlessness, hopelessness, and vicarious trauma. This position has direct, in-person contact with on-site staff and clients; adherence to health and safety protocols is required. A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
