Victim Services Coordinator Inuvik Justice Committee- Inuvik, Northwest Territories Full-time/ Permanent WE WILL NOT REVIEW ANY APPLICATIONS THAT DO NOT INCLUDE A COVERLETTER AND RESUME The Inuvik Justice Committee prides itself on being a supportive, community-centered and non-judgmental service that works in confidence with victims of crime, and offenders. We are looking to hire a full-time, permanent Victim Services Coordinator to join our small non-profit team in the high arctic, and provide information to victims of crime and tragedy, be a source for emotional support, function as a point of access to other resources, and organize preventative/ healing workshops in the community. Responsibilities:

  • You coordinate the Victim Services Program and its clients through client in-takes, needs assessments and intervention
  • You provide accurate and non-biased information about court and the criminal justice system
  • You are a source of support for all court related matters and go to court with victims as needed
  • You are perceptive to individual client needs, and make referrals to other services as required
  • You act as an advocate and a liaison between the victim and other service providers such as the RCMP, Crown Counsel, and Income Assistance for information and assistance
  • You work closely with the victim to ensure they are updated, informed and supported
  • You are responsible for promoting and facilitating awareness raising, and healing/wellness programs and workshops
  • You prepare reports and updates for the RCMP, Territorial/ Supreme Court, Crown Counsel, Defense Counsel and Probation Services as needed
  • You maintain the annual budget, record accurate statistics, and write monthly, mid-year and end of year reports
  • You establish and maintain partnerships with community members
  • As a small office, you naturally work in conjunction with the Victim Services Outreach Coordinator and the Justice Coordinator Program
  • If in doubt, you\xe2\x80\x99ll seek support from the Manager, and our dedicated volunteer Board of Directors
Skills and Abilities
  • Has previously worked with victims in any setting
  • Experience in working with people with mental health challenges, including addictions.
  • Can effectively deal with clients in crisis situations and who are experiencing emotional trauma
  • Is familiar with, and understands the Criminal Justice System and Criminal Law
  • Works form the principles of non-judgement and inclusion, and is perceptive to individual needs
  • Sound judgement: in problem solving, crisis intervention advice, and professional client boundaries
  • Superior communication skills, tact, initiative and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Has facilitated programs and community events before
  • Can respect client confidentiality and maintain accurate client files
  • Is flexible to change, works well in a team, but is also a reliable independent worker
  • Can respect cultural differences and work easily with others
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology or Social Work and 2 two years related experience. OR Diploma/ Certificate in Social Work or Criminal Justice and 4 years related experience.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle and be a positive role model
  • Successfully complete a Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Available for work outside regular office hours as needed, some travel required
  • Willing to make a 2-5 year commitment to the position
Salary is commensurate with experience (from $64,000 per annum)- the more related skills and knowledge you have to offer, the more you will be compensated.
