Purpose

The Vice President, FP&A (The VP) provides financial direction, control and analysis to the Global Wealth Management business line which represents $1.6bn in earnings. Ensures the integrity of financial reporting through implementation of adequate controls, performance measurement and monitoring including annual profit planning and capital expenditure forecasts, monthly and quarterly reporting, forecasting and project tracking.

Leads Asset Management Finance ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Acts as the point person for GWM Finance with respect to the relationship with Group Treasury and the overall funding dynamics within the Bank.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank communication, systems, and knowledge.
  • Heads up the Finance function for Global Asset Management, by providing analysis, support, and counsel to business line leadership. Leverage strong understanding of product portfolio and business model to provide value-add advice and recommendations. Conduct financial reviews / investigations of strategic business initiatives including new acquisitions / products / markets with a view to profitability and accounting issues.
  • Lead financial planning and forecasting for Global Wealth Management including monthly and quarterly reporting. Manages the financial control and reporting of Global Wealth Management, including ensuring forecasting accuracy and integrity of reported financial results as well as meeting quarterly and annual reporting needs.
  • Evaluates the financial results, budgets, and forecasts for Global Asset Management by providing reliable and timely financial projections and advises executive management on financial aspects that will support business growth, improvement initiatives and investments.
  • Directs the analysis & effective management of Global Wealth Management expenses. Provides input to the strategic planning process by providing timely expense analysis & reporting. Provides in-depth analysis of direct expenditures as well as support and allocated expenditures to drive transparency and efficiency. Provides benchmarking of expense related key performance indicators to identify opportunities for cost-savings and more effective deployment of our resources.
  • Directs the budget planning process and supports Senior Management decision making on ongoing operating budgets and on a broad range of capital and operating expense initiatives.
  • Sustain relationships and develop alliances with key contacts, business partners (Business Line, Finance, Corporate Functions) and stakeholders (Executive Management) to deliver on mandate and provide analysis and insight. Build and reinforce effective working relationships and collaboration within and across the Finance Community and the Bank.
  • Directs financial reviews or initiatives to support strategic priorities and / or improve management processes and standardize methodologies. Implement and maintain evolving performance measurement practices, and reporting.
  • Acts as the primary liaison for GWM Finance in the relationship with Group Treasury, working closely with the GWM Treasurer on how changes in the funding markets and balance sheet movements will impact the funding profile and key financial & funding metrics of the GWM division.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank\'s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank\'s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison / values / business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education / Experience
  • MBA and/or Accounting Designation preferred
  • 10 years related experience in a financial area
  • Demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Global Wealth Management products and services, business lines, financial reports, compliance, performance measurement, planning and analysis, financial forecasting, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of management / accounting methods and practices including funds transfer pricing, product profitability, ROE measurement techniques. MIS must be developed and applied consistently to all business lines within Global Wealth Management. The incumbent must be able to function as a controller for expenses.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills required to develop the vision, goals, strategies, and plans for the Finance Department aligning with the overall Bank strategy.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of finance and the ability to analyze the current state continuously and critically for new concepts, insights, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong initiative, forward thinking and creative critical thinking skills with the ability to create or stimulate integrated cross-disciplinary strategic solutions.
  • Skilled in gaining the organizational commitment and alignment of various stakeholders in Global Wealth Management including senior leadership up to the CEO using strong people skills and win-win outcomes.
  • Effective negotiation and influencing skills that can be applied across all functional levels and areas within the organization.
