Position Description
Vice President, Finance and Operations
Reporting to the President, the Vice President Finance and Operations (VPFO) is the Chief Financial Officer and Business
Development Officer of The King's University. The VPFO provides strategic leadership for achieving the university's
mission and vision by ensuring the university has the appropriate operational, administrative and people strategies, plans
and systems in place to effectively grow the University and ensure financial and operating efficiency and responsiveness.
The ultimate outcomes of this role are as much about value creation as cost control.
The VPFO has oversight of campus development of the physical plant and works collaboratively with other members of
the senior team to develop new revenue streams. The VPFO portfolio consists of Financial Services, Human Resources,
Facilities Management, Information Technology, Conference and Food Services.
Accountabilities
Collaborates with the President and works with the members of the President's Cabinet to ensure that the business,
operations and people management of the University are aligned with the University's mission, vision and mandate
statements and the priorities identified in the University's strategic plan;
Provides vision and energy for the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy,
and the ongoing development and monitoring of systems designed to ensure the sustainable future of the University;
As Chief Financial Officer for the University, ensures the current and long-term effectiveness of all financial functions
of the University including: strategic decision-making, supporting tactical initiatives, accounting, audit, internal and
external reporting, disclosure; operating and capital budgeting; risk management; acquisition and disposition of capital
assets; utilization of professional services, contract and lease administration; manage the endowment portfolio and
long-term debt, and an overall optimization of financial performance across the institution;
Is an enabler, catalyst and motivator for the sustained development of a learning-enriched, high-performance, healthy
work culture including: labour relations; recruitment and selection; onboarding and training; employment law;
workplace health and safety training; risk management; compensation; and change management; resulting in the
ability to attract, train, engage and retain excellent employees across all functions;
Ensure the best possible learning, research and
living environments through safe, sustainable, and
efficient management of the physical assets,
information technology and customer services of the
King's campus using student-centered operational
best practices;
Responsible for strategic campus development
including capital maintenance and renewal, campus
building projects, procurement and sustainability;
Ensure clear communication across the
departments and campus by being a connector and
a communicator;
Works in collaboration with the President, Vice President Academic and Research, Vice President Institutional
Advancement, Vice President Student Life and other senior leaders to seek, develop and execute new programing
and revenue streams; and

Serves as institutional liaison to government, financial institutions, and other postsecondary institutions as the
University's financial, business development and operations officer.
Desired Candidate Abilities, Background and Experience
Given the critical role this individual will play in The King's University's continued growth and success, it is essential that
the successful candidate possess the following education, experience, and personal characteristics.
Education
Master's degree in business administration with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
Experience
Five to ten years of progressively responsible senior administrative and financial management experience, preferably
in a post-secondary education context.
Facilities management and project management experience is an asset.
Personal / Professional Attributes
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills and a proven and effective leader of people and
teams, including various professions and vocations.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.*
Ability to work effectively with diverse internal stakeholders and with the University's supporting constituency.
Results oriented strategic thinker and planner.
A clear understanding of and commitment to the Kings University's mission and values.
