Job Description

My client is an environmental consultancy that provides environmental solutions for a wide variety of clients in the transportation, land development, infrastructure, linear, energy, industrial, government, and recreational sectors throughout BC ranging from private developers to provincial and municipal governments. Throughout the last 25+ years, they have specialized in assisting companies through the BC and Canadian environmental assessment approval processes and providing general regulatory permitting and environmental assessment and consulting services through regional and municipal government approval processes.

The Vice President will serve as the operational leader and oversee the implementation of work within all market areas of environmental services (regulatory, environmental monitoring, and environmental impact assessments).

He/She will be responsible for growing the business and managing staff to ensure their multi-discipline approach is followed with efficiency and precision. The President will provide leadership in a manner that inspires and encourages goal achievement through empowerment and creativity among the team.

Scope of Position:

This role is focused on growth through the development of external facing new business opportunities, as well as in active collaboration with other service areas through cross-selling. The successful candidate will be expected to proactively grow market share across all the environmental services areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and expanding a continuous stream of new stand-alone environmental work, as well as cross-selling into ongoing company proposals and projects. i.e., leading assertive and proactive initiatives to develop new client opportunities and to acquire additional business from existing company client and project relationships.
  • Managing a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
  • Assisting senior executive management in strategy planning and organizational design initiatives.
  • Ensuring the development and management of budgets and plans which will deliver the organization's strategic goals.
  • Developing and implementing plans to adapt and grow the existing operational systems, processes, and personnel in order to accommodate growth objectives of the business.
  • Ensuring the commercial viability of the business at all times and acting in compliance with agreed profitability objectives.
  • Participates in projects with cross-functional teams to address business opportunities.
  • Engendering a style of management that encourages excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Providing project management and specialist advisory support to project teams.
  • Provide coaching and senior leadership oversight to ensure the team produces high quality project deliverables that meet or exceed client expectations and so individuals learn and grow in their careers.
  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor's/University degree in engineering, science, environmental science, environmental management or a related discipline.
  • Registered as R.P.Bio, P.Ag, or RPF.
  • A postgraduate qualification in a related discipline and/or MBA desirable.
  • A minimum of 15 years' experience in selling, managing and delivering environmental consulting related activities.
  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Strong financial management and people management skills.
  • Strong business acumen, with ability to execute strategic programs and meet departmental financial and utilization goals.
  • Excellent client management and business development skills.
  • An understanding of how to formulate and execute business strategies as well as effectively leading a team of people.
  • Demonstrated experience working on major environmental projects.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to build a great business
  • In-depth knowledge of BC provincial and federal environmental legislation.
  • Willingness to travel as work requires.
  • An ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and integrated team environment.
  • Effective and open communication and presentation style and the ability to plan and deliver high quality reports.
  • An ability to be flexible, learn and perform challenging tasks outside their area of skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated prior experience managing, coaching, and growing teams in a professional services setting, including peer review of reports and deliverables.
  • Proactive with the ability to influence others through persuasion, negotiation, and consensus building.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict management and communication skills.
