What is the opportunity?

You will manage and develop a team of credit professionals responsible for Real Estate Capital Partners (RECP) and Real Estate Corporate Banking (RECB). In addition to providing oversight to the team\xe2\x80\x99s assigned portfolio, you will lead and foster relationships with the following key internal stakeholders to support the growth of the RBC Capital Markets loan book and trading business: Corporate Banking (CB), Real Estate Capital Partners (RECP), Group Risk Management (GRM), Global Markets (GM), Global Loans Administration (GLA), and Global Banking Service Centre (GBSC).

RECP was created as a standalone unit of RBC Capital Markets and a leading provider of debt capital to premier institutional real estate sponsors. RECP\xe2\x80\x99s mandate is to originate debt secured by stabilized and transitional assets across all major commercial real estate asset classes in both single asset and portfolio investments. RECP acts as principal, deploying RBC Capital Markets\xe2\x80\x99 balance sheet by originating a senior mortgage, mezzanine, loan-on-loan, and revolving facilities.

***This is a Toronto-based role with a minimum expectation of 2-3 days in the office.***

What will you do?

  • Actively participate in designing, developing, and executing best-in-class operational processes related to RECP transaction requests for new and existing clients (\xe2\x80\x9cthe project\xe2\x80\x9d). This green field project is to build a brand-new operating system with a vision of achieving operational optimization and efficiencies across different stages of transactions.
  • Ability to identify issues, problems, and gaps in the existing processes, generate solutions and choose appropriate alternatives using fundamental root cause analysis.
  • Organizing multiple work streams to deliver against the roadmaps and syncing with the overall project roadmap
  • Collaborate with RECP partners to identify opportunities for the evolution of the role, CTM mandate, tasks, and responsibilities.
  • In this role, you will lead the execution of CTM tasks and responsibilities performed by the team of Associates, including but not limited to the following:
  • Transaction requests (which may include but are not limited to new credits, restructurings, renewals, waivers, and loan documentation review).
  • Annual facility reviews and ensuring data integrity by reviewing credit documentation and liaising with the Facility Agents.
  • Undertaking day-to-day portfolio transaction management tasks, including but not limited to:
reviewing and approving draw-down requests.

coordinating with GLA for future funding requests.

checking and verifying the Conditions Precedents(\xe2\x80\x9cCP\xe2\x80\x9d) requirements for the facilities drawdown request.

ensuring that all the requirements of drawdown in respect of the development loan, Capex facility, and acquisition financing are met, including but not limited to a review of the construction/project development report and draw monitor report.

liaising with GLA for the receipts of fees, interest payments, and repayments per the Credit Agreement.

ensuring all cashless movement of funds are by the provisions of credit agreements.

actioning property releases. * Through the role, you will also develop expertise in the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s applicable policies and guidelines, and you will be able to provide value-added advice to key internal stakeholders, including participating in providing deliverables with respect to regulatory and audit requests.
  • Develop critical relationships with Corporate Banking (CB), Real Estate Capital Partners (RECP), Group Risk Management (GRM), Global Markets (GM), and Global Loans Administration (GLA) to execute transactions.
  • Stay up to date on Bank policy, credit trends, and industry research to develop a high-performing team in which team members produce insightful, high-quality work promptly.
  • Lead working groups with cross-functional teams to deliver results and drive efficiency.
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching on employee performance and progress against goals, career progression, and continual training.
  • Other ad-hoc responsibilities include presenting to key stakeholders, reporting portfolio statistics, and periodic process reviews.
What do you need to succeed?
  • An undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • MBA or Professional Designation (e.g. CPA, CFA) is strongly preferred.
  • Five years or more of work experience in Corporate Lending, Risk Management, or Client Relationship Management.
  • Strong knowledge of Capital Markets products, lending processes, and legal documentation (e.g. loan agreements and security documents).
  • Strong financial & risk analysis skills, with a good understanding of accounting standards and financial modeling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong negotiation skills and an ability to manage conflicting demands and viewpoints and multiple stakeholder expectations.
  • People management & coaching experience and an ability to work effectively within a team environment and to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize competing work streams and perform well under pressure to meet sensitive deadlines.
