Veterinary Rehabilitation Consultant

Job Description

We are seeking dedicated Rehab-Certified Veterinary Nurses or Animal Physiotherapists who are passionate about pet mobility to join our rehabilitation team as Veterinary Rehabilitation Consultants. This role involves assessing patients from a mobility perspective, administering pain-relieving modalities (such as, acupressure, LASER, E-stim, PEMF, and manual therapies), formulating a treatment plan (which may include hydrotherapy in the pool or underwater treadmill, or land-based therapeutic exercises), educating staff and clients, cleaning, and administration duties.

Key Responsibilities:



Assess mobility of pets (mostly dogs and occasional cats) from a musculoskeletal and neurological perspective, identify pain, weaknesses and asymmetries, and put together a plan for addressing identified abnormalities. Interact clients in a professional and compassionate manner, addressing questions and concerns about pet rehabilitation and seeking clarification from supervising veterinarians as necessary Provide guidance and education on home care, exercises, and post-therapy recommendations under the direction of our rehabilitation veterinarian Facilitate care solutions by coordinating with the rehabilitation team to ensure each patient receives the appropriate treatment and support Support rehabilitation treatments such as therapeutic exercises and mobility assistance under the supervision of a qualified rehabilitation veterinarian Monitor patient responses to therapy and report progress to the supervising veterinarian via an electronic record keeping system (currently Daysmart Vet) Provide patient handling and restraint as needed Stay up to date and educate staff on the latest pet rehabilitation recommendations Maintain cleanliness and organization of rehabilitation and therapy areas

Physical Requirements:



This is a physically demanding role that involves assisting non ambulatory animals and animals with mobility challenges, including lifting, supporting, and repositioning them during assessments and therapy sessions. Requires frequent kneeling, bending, and getting up and down off the floor throughout shifts. Must be able to safely handle and move animals of various sizes.

Qualifications:



Diploma or Certification in Veterinary Rehabilitation or Animal Physiotherapy eg. CCRP, CCRN/CCMN, CCAT, or minimum of 2 years equivalent on-the-job training in a pet rehabilitation facility Experience working with surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic and neurologic patients and an understanding of related conditions Knowledge of nutrition, osteoarthritis management, and pet weight management options Comfortable working with animals of all sizes, including those with mobility challenges Strong observational and communication skills Positive reinforcement or fear-free training methods Ability to work independently and as part of a team and keen to contribute to the growth and development of our rehabilitation and fitness centre.
