An Exam Room Attendant (ERA) is integral to the team as they deal directly with the client, patient, Technicians, paramedical support team, and work closely with their partnered veterinarian. An ERA assists the veterinarian with patient care by collecting all necessary information during the appointment, medical information documenting, pet-handling, helping to obtain and prepare samples and running diagnostics, as well as ensuring patient follow-up. Provide client educational communication, and documentation for clients to provide exceptional at home care for their pets.
Our ideal candidate will be available Monday through Saturday, with flexibility for both day shifts starting at 7:00 AM and afternoon shifts ending at 7:00 PM. We strive to provide a balanced schedule by rotating early shifts one week and late shifts the next, and we also ensure Saturday shifts are fairly rotated among all staff.
What you will do:
Establish rapport with the client and patient during the appointment
Review and collect patient history and all other necessary information as well as document and transcribe, spell check appointment notes and discharge notes
Perform some clerical duties for the veterinarian such as entering charges, call backs, creating estimates, filling out forms, completing referrals, email and phone correspondence with clients, and scanning patient documents
Present client education by explaining patient home care, medication information, and providing medical diagnosis documentation
Assist with pet-handling, as well as preparing instruments and equipment needed for appointments
Perform and record TPR (temperature, pulse and respiratory rate) on patients
Assist veterinarians with patients and processing diagnostic samples
Observe and report to the vets on the behaviour and condition of animals in clinic
Work well in a fast paced pivoting environment
