Position Overview
:
A Veterinary Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians during high-stress, fast-paced situations. You will assist in delivering urgent and life-saving care and handling a variety of cases. The ideal candidate will have experience in an emergency setting, be able to think quickly under pressure, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
:
Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency medical procedures and patient care.
Prepare and maintain treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
Provide excellent animal husbandry, feed and walk patients, and provide comfort during their stay in the hospital.
Handle emergency patients, including those requiring immediate resuscitation or stabilization.
Aid in performing diagnostic procedures, such as taking radiographs and assisting in blood draws.
Provide support and comfort to pet owners.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in our practice management system.
Assist in emergency surgeries as needed, including prepping surgical areas and providing instrument support.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control procedures.
Greet and assist clients, handle incoming calls and messages, and ensure client records and appointments are organized; these duties are included in the coverage of front-desk.
Qualifications
:
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively in fast-paced environments.
Ability to stay calm and focused during stressful or emergency situations.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
Compassionate, patient, and caring demeanor when interacting with both pets and their owners.
Ability to lift and restrain animals as necessary (up to 50kgs).
Previous experience as a veterinary assistant, ideally in an emergency or critical care setting is an asset.
Certification or formal training as a Veterinary Assistant is a plus but not required.
