Overview
Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our surgical team. You will work within a collaborative surgical service that includes advanced anesthesia support, assisting with a range of soft tissue and orthopedic procedures in a fast-paced referral environment. Our surgical offerings include advanced procedures such as laparoscopy and brachycephalic airway correction, providing an excellent opportunity to build skills and experience in a growing specialty service.
Technical abilities, duties and skills
Experience assisting with surgical procedures; experience with orthopedic cases is an asset
Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, fast paced referral environment, including managing high-volume surgical days
Strong commitment to exceptional patient care and client service, including accepting patient drop offs and post-operative discharges
Proficiency with IV fluid pumps, syringe pumps, multiparameter monitoring equipment.
Surgical patient prep and sterile assisting during procedures
Knowledge of instrument care, including cleaning, sterilization and ongoing equipment maintenance
Clear communication and coordination with Inventory and Medical Device Reprocessing regarding surgical instruments and consumables (eg orthopedic plates and related supplies)
Professional demeanor with accurate, thorough medical record documentation
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Graduate from a Veterinary Assistant program
Minimum of 2-3 years in clinical setting.
Prior experience working within a Specialist Referral Hospital, plasma sterilization, orthopedic procedures is an asset
Able to perform moderately physically demanding work that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion.
