Your Opportunity:

The Vehicle Equipment Supplies Service Technician (VESST) assists with the oversight and readiness of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fleet, including ambulances and all EMS support vehicles. This position includes the maintenance of or assisting with the maintenance or repair oversight of EMS medical devices and EMS-specific equipment. The VESST, under the direction of a Business Standards & Operations Support (BSOS) management team member or in cooperation with the Fleet and Equipment Coordinator, ensures that EMS vehicles are deep cleaned every 180 days and that preventative maintenance is completed as per legislative and policy requirements and servicing of specified equipment as required under provincial regulations, and the Alberta Health Services Emergency Medical Services processes are completed. VESST support for medical equipment and medical assistance is required. Examples of such support include, but are not limited to, large-scale emergency incidents, events that require special equipment such as bariatric resources, emergency preparedness simulation exercises, or public education/public relations events. Regular bending, twisting and lifting from ground level up to 80lb regularly. Ability to respond to emergency calls.

Description:

As a Vehicle Equipment Supplies Service Technician (VESST), you will assist with the everyday EMS Fleet maintenance schedule and physical movements to and from vendors of fleet vehicles. The VESST will ensure that spare vehicles are clean, fully equipped and supplied as required by provincial regulations and AHS EMS inventory lists. As a VESST you are responsible for the inspection and repair of equipment (i.e. Power Cots, Power Loads, suction units). You will prioritize, schedule, and complete vehicle and medical equipment inspections and engage AHS vendors as required. As a VESST, you may be required to assist with direct patient contact and medical care, respond to disasters or large scale incidents within the province of Alberta as required. This position may require extensive standing, twisting and physical demands to perform job duties. Alberta Health Services EMS requires the proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization for all applicants external to AHS or internal to AHS, who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed within 6 months of the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test. Required Qualifications: Completion of an Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) approved program. Active registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence with no more than six (6) demerits. Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test taken no more than six months from the application date. Additional Required Qualifications: Active registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP). Completion of an Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) approved program. Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (FARE) test taken no more than six months from the application date. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Preferred Qualifications: Excellent customer service skills support Emergency Medical Services colleagues caring for all Albertans. Experience in mechanical or electrical work and fleet management experience is beneficial. Must be able to creatively problem solve under pressure.
