Vegetation Management Operator

County of Vermilion River, County of Vermilion River

The County of Vermilion River is looking for an experienced and motivated Vegetation Management Operator to join our safety-oriented team for the season (April 2 to November 1, with possibility of extension). The Vegetation Management Operator controls vegetation on municipal rights-of-way and County properties. This position is based out of Kitscoty, Alberta.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Operate truck mounted sprayer and all-terrain vehicle mounted spray equipment to apply herbicides on County rights-of-way and areas of weed infestation in compliance with provincial regulations and standard practices.

• Service application equipment daily to ensure safe and proper operation.

• Deal with the public and landowners efficiently and courteously.

• Keep accurate records and mapping, use computer and GIS to document vegetation management.

• May assist with annual crop pest surveillance and other tasks as required.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma, post-secondary training in Agriculture or Environment is an asset

• Valid Alberta Pesticide Applicator\'s or Authorized Assistant Licence or ability to obtain one

• Familiar with local cropping practices and able to identify local weeds and crops is an asset

• Professional manner with ability to communicate effectively and work independently with minimal supervision

• Able to safely perform manual tasks relating to weed control, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and lift to 20 kg (44 lbs.)

• Able to work effectively independently and as part of a team

• Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver\'s License and acceptable Driver\'s Abstract

This position will tentatively start on April 2, 2024, and conclude on November 1, 2024. A competitive wage is available ($22 - $30 per hour) depending on experience and certification. Training in weed ID, herbicide stewardship and Authorized Assistant training may be provided. The successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check and drivers abstract.
