Grounds Person

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Grounds Person to join our tree care team. The Grounds Person will support arborists and other crew members by performing essential ground-based tasks to ensure safe and efficient operations at job sites. This role involves physical labor, site organization, and the use of equipment such as wood chippers, while adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Site Preparation and Organization

: Set up and maintain a safe and organized work site, including placing cones, signs, and barriers to secure the area.

Limbing and Bucking

: Cut and process tree limbs and logs on the ground using chainsaws or other hand tools, ensuring proper handling and disposal.

Debris Management

: Feed branches and debris into wood chippers, manage chip piles, and ensure proper cleanup of job sites.

Equipment Handling

: Safely operate and maintain ground-based tools and equipment, such as chainsaws, chippers, and rakes, following all safety guidelines.

Assisting Crew

: Support arborists and other team members by passing tools, handling ropes, and performing other ground-based tasks as directed.

Material Transport

: Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and debris to and from job sites.

Safety Compliance

: Adhere to all safety protocols, including maintaining a safe distance from overhead work and staying outside the limits of approach for energized lines or equipment.

Site Cleanup

: Ensure job sites are left clean and free of debris, including raking, sweeping, and disposing of waste properly.
Qualifications

Experience

: Previous experience in landscaping, tree care, or a related field is preferred but not required; on-the-job training will be provided.

Physical Fitness

: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.

Skills

: Basic knowledge of safe chainsaw operation, wood chipper use, and other ground-based tools is a plus.

Teamwork

: Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with crew members.

Safety Awareness

: Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a safe work environment.

Licenses/Certifications

: A valid driver's license is preferred; certifications in chainsaw safety or related fields are a plus.

Restrictions

: Must not operate bucket trucks, aerial booms, or work within the limits of approach for energized lines or equipment.
Work Environment

Physical Demands

: The role requires frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of heavy materials, as well as prolonged standing and bending.

Outdoor Conditions

: Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or wind.

Schedule

: Full-time position with potential for overtime; some weekend or emergency call-out work may be required.
