VAW Newcomer Support Worker



(Full-Time-One Year of Contract with Possibility of Extension)





CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or immigration status.



We are searching for a full-time VAW Newcomer Support Worker position. The position requires you to be part of a service delivery team assisting immigrant and refugee women who are experiencing abuse.

What you will be doing:



Provide personal support services to immigrant women who are experiencing domestic violence, including offering crisis intervention, developing safety plans, and ensuring access to immediate and long-term supports. Assess the unique circumstances of each client and develop individualized service plans that align with agency policies, professional standards, and best practices in service delivery. Deliver tailored settlement services designed to meet the needs of newcomer women, supporting their integration and overall well-being. Provide guidance and assistance with immigration status, government forms, applications, and filing processes. Offer community navigation support to help newcomers understand Canadian life, culture, traditions, and rights. Support all individuals identifying as "newcomers," including those who may not have recently immigrated to Canada. Plan and facilitate group sessions in collaboration with partner service delivery agencies, fostering peer learning and support among participants. Establish and maintain a strong network of community contacts to facilitate referrals and ensure that clients are connected with appropriate community resources and services. Engage in active outreach to newcomer women of all ages within the community to promote awareness of available supports and encourage access to services. Raise public awareness about issues of domestic violence and abuse, and work to empower older women by facilitating the development of support groups, peer networks, and connections with community services. culturally appropriate, gender-based perspectives in all aspects of service delivery to promote cultural safety and inclusivity for immigrant and refugee women across diverse communities. Work in close collaboration with CCS Settlement Services and the Transitional and Housing Support Worker Program when appropriate, ensuring coordinated and comprehensive client support. Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate records, reports, and documentation in a timely and professional manner, in accordance with agency standards.

What are we looking for?



Diploma in Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 2-3 years of experience in human services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience in client-centred service delivery and case management. Strong cross-cultural communication skills when engaging with clients, partner agencies, and the public. Proficiency in data entry and case management software. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to adapt style to diverse audiences; proficiency in additional languages is a strong asset. Fluency in French is considered an asset. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset. Legal entitlement to work in Canada, including a valid Social Insurance Number. Successful completion of a background check and/or vulnerable sector check upon hire.

Location:

25 Capston Dr. Mississauga, ON

Compensation:

$29.67/hr to $33.02/hr based on experience

Hours of work:

35 hours per week, including Saturdays, occasional evening and overtime will be required
