Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent position of Utility Worker - Graffiti for Infrastructure Maintenance & Operation, Public Works.

The Utility Worker- Graffiti position will perform a wide variety of general labourer duties with lifting in the mid to heavy range possible, in various locations indoors and outdoors in varying working conditions, mainly in the Graffiti Removal Program, maintaining HRM buildings and assisting with community-driven cleanups. By working safely and cooperatively with others you will contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Load and unload equipment and materials.
Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment.
Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications.
Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM.
Attend work on a regular basis.
Duties and responsibilities to be performed inside and outside in varying weather conditions.
Operation of equipment and tools in difficult conditions.
Work environment may include industry-acceptable levels of dust, fumes, noise, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
One (1) year of related experience in the removal of graffiti
Training in Social Impact of Graffiti or willingness to attend training
Strong working knowledge of graffiti removal applications
Ability to determine which graffiti removal product is to be applied to buildings
Knowledge of various tools/equipment utilized for removal of graffiti
Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets
A valid Class 5 NS driver's license
WHMIS, CPR/First Aid certification, Provincial Traffic Control Certification and Signage Course
Must have ability to pass a Security Clearance and Child Abuse Registry; provide current Driver Abstract if applicable
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Must have the ability to work safely and report any workplace hazards
Must have good attendance and work record.
Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision and be a team player
Must be willing to accept work-related training.
Must participate in Winter Works Operations as per Schedule 'C' of the CUPE 108 Collective Agreement
Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively including oral and written communication.
Must have training in WHMIS and Emergency First Aid and have knowledge of and willingness to learn all required safety procedures and work practices
Security Clearance Requirements:
Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm; 40 hours per week.
SALARY:
$26.87 per hour, as per the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 108 and the Halifax Regional Municipality
