Reporting to the Public Works Superintendent, the incumbent uses various equipment to perform, individually or in teams, various semi-specialized manual tasks related to maintenance, repairs and construction for public structures, mainly on the road transportation network, the water distribution and sewer system, and the transportation system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Duties associated with the water distribution and sewer system
Installs the main sanitary and storm sewer and water piping, flush hydrants, and valves, including digging and filling holes and trenches
Repairs manholes, drainage wells, drains, storm sewers and culverts
Installs fittings for manholes, connections and embankment construction on trenches

Duties associated with streets and transportation
Carries out snow removal and salt and sand spreading on public roads
Places markers for painting pavement lines
Directs traffic as a flagperson
Relays information on road conditions
Assists in measurement and line work
Installs and maintains signs
3.
General duties
Performs basic maintenance and cleaning of the equipment used and the facilities
Prepares the lands, tools and equipment required to carry out construction work
Performs general excavation and renovation work
Operates heavy machinery, including front-end loaders, snow removal loaders, sidewalk plows, Versatile tractors and heavy (tandem) trucks
Uses the appropriate electric and manual devices in carrying out duties
Performs any related tasks
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Driver's licence
Holds a Class 3E driver's licence (valid for vehicles equipped with air brakes)
Certifications
After hiring, pass a City of Dieppe aptitude test for operating the following heavy equipment: front-end loader, snow plow, sidewalk plow, Versatile tractor and heavy (tandem) trucks for transporting salt and/or materials.
Training
Heavy machinery training would be an asset.
Some additional training could be required as necessary.
Experience
Two (2) years of relevant experience in water and sewer systems construction and working knowledge of construction and repair principles for main water and sewer lines, flush hydrants, valves, fittings, manholes, service laterals, etc., used in municipal water and sewer systems.
Skills
Fluent in spoken French and English and proficient in written French and English
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Initiative, good judgment.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Able to communicate and interact easily with the general public
Remains calm when responding to requests from the general public or others, in the performance of job-related duties
Shows a positive attitude toward the interests of the municipality and the community in general
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week (varied shifts: day, evening and weekend)
