Utility Operator II (Full Time)
Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the Utility Operator II position is responsible for performing duties related to the operation and maintenance of municipal water and/or wastewater facilities. This position involves the performance of a wide variety of work, occasionally of a complex nature.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operation and maintenance of municipal water and/or wastewater infrastructure, including water supply and distribution, and sewage collection and treatment, as qualified.
  • Call-out to emergencies in the municipal infrastructure system as required.
  • Implementation of public works projects to satisfy established designs.
  • Assist with connection of users to municipal sewer and water systems in accordance with regulated public health standards.
  • Assist with effective inventory control in relation to materials/goods associated with the municipal infrastructure.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of effective records for municipal infrastructure.
  • Perform the duties of other Public Works classifications as required and where qualified.


Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure works, or other equivalent combination of training and experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License or equivalent with clean drivers abstract.
  • Possess a valid EOCP Level 2 designation or equivalent for at least one of: Water Distribution (WD), Sewer Collection (WWC), Water Treatment (WT) or Sewer Treatment (WWT).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS regulations and WorkSafeBC procedures.


Hours of work:
  • 40 hours per week

Pay and Benefits:
  • This is a Union position within CUPE Local 173. The current rate of pay is $31.61/hour.
  • Extended medical, dental, pension, sick leave, and other benefits are in accordance with the collective agreement.
