Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.Under the direction of the Works Supervisor - Sign Shop, Traffic Management, the successful incumbent will undertake a wide range of duties in various locations indoors and outdoors in various working conditions. By working safely and cooperatively with others you will contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Routine internal and external maintenance tasks such as general clean up, sweeping streets, pick and shovel work, routine maintenance, and general painting;
  • Perform traffic control and signage as required;
  • Assist with the erecting of municipal signage, installing sign bases, jackhammering, and concrete work;
  • Assists with painting centre lines and lane lines;
  • Assists with making/screen printing traffic signs;
  • Work special events, parades, street closures, and traffic control;
  • Load and unload equipment and materials;
  • Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment;
  • Labourer functions related to assisting other classifications operations\' staff with various tasks;
  • Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications;
  • Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;
  • Must have a good attendance and work record;
  • Must have the ability to work night shift as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • One year related experience;
  • Capable and willing to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions;
  • Good attendance and work record;
  • Ability to work independently, and as a team player;
  • Ability to follow instructions, and communicate effectively including oral and written communication.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • WHMIS, Confined Spaces Entry, CPR/First Aid certification, Nova Scotia Traffic Control Person and Temporary Signing Certification or ability to successfully complete;
  • Working knowledge of methods, material and equipment usage involved with installation of traffic signs;
  • Experience in concrete work considered an asset;
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver\'s Licence with an acceptable driving record and be able to operate 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and 1 ton truck, cube van;
  • Experience operating light truck/trailer combination considered an asset;
  • Comfortable performing work from ladders or aerial lift at various heights;
  • Experience operating concrete saws, jack hammers, core drills and other power or air driver tools considered an asset;
