Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for one full time permanent position of Utility Operator 1 - Nightshift Street Sweeper with Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations (IMO) in Public Works.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safe operation of a Mechanical / Vacuum Street Sweeper;
  • Load and unload equipment and materials as required;
  • Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment;
  • Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications;
  • Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;
  • Attend work on a regular basis;
  • Participate in winter works if required;
  • Must be willing to upgrade training to operate winter works equipment;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Must have valid Nova Scotia Driver's License Class 3 with air brake endorsement;
  • Must have one (1) year of recent related experience operating under a Class 3 license;
  • Must successfully complete HRM Mechanical Sweeper training and able to provide current certification;
  • Good driving record (Registry of Motor Vehicle abstract may be required before a formal job offer is made).
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Able to work independently, and as a team player;
  • Able to follow instructions, and communicate effectively including oral and written communication;
  • Must have good attendance and work record;
  • Working knowledge of methods, materials and equipment usage involved in IMO;
  • WHMIS, CPR/First Aid certification or ability to successfully complete.
  • Capable and willing to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note - Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer's discretion.
Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and have valid licensing, as required.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, full-time
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday, 11:00pm - 7:00am; 40 hours per week
SALARY: $28.47 per hour as per CUPE 108 Collective Agreement plus shift differential
WORK LOCATION: 3800 Mackintosh Street, Halifax
