Leduc County is looking an experienced and highly motivated Utilities Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Utilities Supervisor, the Utilities Technician is accountable for the delivery of water and wastewater programs within the County. Through effectively managing priorities, the technician is a key contributor to the achievement of the department's operational deliverables.

What you will do

1. Contributes to the delivery of the department's operational plan and utility programs by performing work and adhering to technical and municipal standards.
Works with the Supervisor - Utilities to deliver operational activities.
Prioritizes work in a changeable environment.
Contributes to the execution of municipal utilities maintenance plans.
2. Contributes to the delivery of the following programs:
Water quality program
+ Monitors the biological, chemical and physical requirements of the program and takes appropriate action to maintain service level standards.
+ Contributes to the quality assurance/quality control of the systems and emergency responses.
+ Provides service level reports to the Supervisor - Utilities. Wastewater program
+ Monitors the condition of the lift station wet wells and takes appropriate action to maintain service level standards.
+ Contributes to the quality assurance/quality control of the systems and emergency responses.
+ Provides service level reports to the Supervisor - Utilities. SCADA monitoring program
+ Provides oversight of the remote SCADA monitoring program and takes appropriate action to maintain service level standards.
+ Contributes to the quality assurance/quality control of the systems and emergency responses.
+ Provides service level reports to the Supervisor - Utilities.
3. Supports the Supervisor - Utilities in the implementation of projects and day-to-day work assignments to meet service area deliverables.
4. Performs special projects as assigned.
5. Communicates key stakeholder inquiries to the Supervisor - Utilities.
6. Contributes and completes projects that fall within the work group's functions.
7. Monitors contracted services as assigned by the Supervisor - Utilities.
8. Strives to continually enhance the quality and delivery of services through efficiency and innovation.
9. Provides utility locate services for water and wastewater installation and third-party conflict identification as required.
10. Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County's policies and administrative directives.
11. Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
12. Performs related duties as required and assigned.
What you need to succeed

Must-have
A diploma in water and wastewater technology and certification in Water Distribution (Level II), Wastewater Collection (Level II), Wastewater Treatment (Level I) is required with three (3) years' experience in the operation and maintenance of municipal water, wastewater, and solid waste infrastructure is required.
Confined Space Entry and Monitor, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Standard First Aid, Ground Disturbance for Supervisors, hydrogen sulfide (H2S Alive) courses and proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
An Alberta Class 5 driver's license, criminal record check satisfactory to Leduc County and the ability to obtain security and health clearance at the Edmonton International Airport is required.
A service focus with good communication and interpersonal skills are required in order to communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing), ensure mutual understanding and encourage teamwork in the implementation of duties.
Proven achievement of results is key to success in the role.
The ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality is essential.

Experience working with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) is an asset.

The opportunity is permanent full-time and is 40 hours per week scheduled Monday to Friday, with some extended hours to meet operational requirements. The office is located at 101-1101 5 St. Nisku, AB.
