The Opportunity
Reporting to the Finance Director, the US Accounting Manager will be responsible for leading and overseeing the Finance team's activities especially related to US operations. This role encompasses full-cycle accounting, finance, and payroll functions for the US, while also contributing to the continuous improvement and optimization of organizational development processes.
The US Accounting Manager will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial and payroll data, as well as delivering timely and accurate financial reporting. This position requires close collaboration with operations and HR teams, fostering strong partnerships to support business objectives and drive operational success.
Your Impact
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Manage the full cycle of accounting activities, including bi-weekly outstanding AR Collections and cheque runs
Resolve billing concerns with vendors or clients
Approve and ensure entry of all vendor invoices into accounting system
Payroll & Tax Compliance
Administer US Payroll and consulting fees
Manage and file all sales tax, state and federal tax and any other tax required compliance and remittance
Conduct Commission and rebate for US
Reconciliation & Expense Management
Process bi-weekly check runs
Ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions and reconciliations
Prepare bank reconciliations and balance sheets account reconciliations
Reconcile US and Canadian expenses and corporate credit card statements
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Ensure that all month-end financial duties and financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner for all US companies
Conduct variance and expense analysis, recommend corrective actions as needed, and assist in year-end audit preparation
Update capital assets schedule and manage monthly overhead rate updates
Monitor company's financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs
Inter-company
Process inter-company transactions and reconciliation between US companies and Canadian companies
Administer adjusted and accrued entries, identify and resolve discrepancies.
Prepare and manage transfer pricing adjustments and any other cross border transactions
Audits and Process
Develop, implement, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards, and manage tax filings, including income tax, sales tax, and other applicable taxes
Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all activities including year-end working papers and spreadsheets
Prepare information for any internal or external audits or independent reviews being conducted
Enhance and maintain accounting and financial procedures, process and systems
Business Support
Support the integration of ERP (Odoo), US systems and other finance, payroll or company priorities
Partner with HR on Benefits Management - US health benefits, dental, Worker's Compensation
Regular travel to our operations facility in Volga, South Dakota and travel as needed to our other locations as per business needs
Your Experience, Skills & Education
Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
CPA designation is required
Minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting experience for US and Canada in a manufacturing environment is preferred
Previous controller experience is an asset
Functional and operational knowledge of payroll. CPP designation is an asset
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards
Strong analytical and computer skills, proficient with Excel
Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment as well as independently
Proven organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
