Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Urban Transportation and Smart Mobility Coordinator will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
  • participate in the research and evaluation of new/emerging technologies;
  • assist the Development and Infrastructure Engineering groups plan for and integrate emerging technologies and transit supportive principles;
  • participate in the feasibility studies/pilot projects in to new technologies;
  • participate in the evaluation of existing and future transportation infrastructure by conducting specialized field studies, traffic data collection and analysis;
  • respond to transportation related inquiries and complaints;
  • participate in the administration of changes to the municipal traffic by-law and its schedules;
  • review on-going municipal traffic operations through field inspections and provide technical recommendations to improve traffic control systems;
  • provide direction to the Traffic Summer Student and review their work as applicable;
  • review and provide preliminary comments on development applications, traffic control planning, signage, and technical reports;
  • prepare draft memorandums, reports and by-law recommendations for submission to internal and external stakeholders;
  • participate in Public Information Centres, Municipal/Regional Committees, and other meetings as required; and,
  • other related duties as may be assigned.
Who You Are Our Transportation Services team is looking for a self-motivated, solutions-oriented individual. You convey your thoughts clearly and concisely. You solve problems by identifying, gathering and processing relevant information to determine possible solutions, research options, evaluate them using your technical, numerical and analytics skills and make recommendations. What You Bring To Our Team As the successful applicant, you must possess:
  • a three (3) year college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Transportation Engineering Technology
  • a minimum of five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 of experience, preferably in a municipal engineering environment;
  • a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Certified Technician (C.Tech) with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT);
  • knowledge of new/emerging technologies in Transportation including micro transit, connected and autonomous vehicles;
  • an intermediate level working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel and Outlook);
  • working knowledge of traffic/transportation engineering related software (e.g. Synchro);
  • a good understanding of the municipal planning process, relevant engineering standards, field related resource materials (ITE, HCM, OTM and TAC manuals);
  • a thorough knowledge of traffic operations, pedestrian and cyclist safety and application of provincial and municipal policies and regulations;
  • a valid unrestricted Ontario Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Licence (minimum Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d) maintained in good standing with access to a personal vehicle.
