Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset. Experience in Memory Care an asset.

Job Requirements

PSW certification, if applicable.
Current First Aid and CPR Certification recommended
Police Record Check (as per RHA), including VSC
TB Testing
Physical Demands:
Standing for long periods of time.
Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
Typing and/or use of a computer keyboard proficiently.
Pulling/pushing/lifting to open and/or relocate binders, carts, etc. up to 10lbs.
Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents in the provision of resident care where required.
Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen.
Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes.
Speaking/communicating with individuals.
The UCP is responsible for providing the highest degree of quality care and services by administering medication and treatments in a safe organized manner by law and in accordance with prevailing practices as set out by the pharmacy.
Reviews, reads, documents and communicates pertinent information about residents.
Receives medication updates.
Administers/assists/observes medications and treatments for each resident using the medication administration record (MAR).
Follow infection control measures (as per IPAC and organization's policies) to enhance the safety and wellbeing of residents and staff
Medications are passed according to times as directed by the residence and/or physician's order.
Documents and initials as medications are given; appropriate documentation is completed for refusal or missed doses.
Maintains confidentiality of all resident information including resident medication among other residents
All other duties as assigned.
Additional Qualifications:
Successful completion of initial and annual medication administration training and sign off by the DOC/designate as per the Unregulated Care Providers Guidelines - College of Nurses.
Notifies the General Manager of any resident concerns.
Restocks medication cart after all medication passes.
Checks all medications prior to administration using the "8 rights" for medication administration (right route, right resident, right medication, right dose, etc.)
Provides PRN ("as needed") medications as requested by the resident and as per the physician's order.
Counts all narcotics with another UCP or nurse at the beginning and end of every shift.
Refills resident medications as required and as per the prescription refill process.
Responsible for safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys.
Work Environment:
This position works indoors.
