Salary:





$47.83 - 56.75/hour depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits on regular earnings, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day.

NLC's University Arts and Sciences program requires one or more sessional instructors to teach 100-level and 200-level courses in the

Environmental Site Assessment Technician Certificate

program.


Courses span several disciplines including botany, basic ecology, soil science and classification, inventory and assessment, reclamation, and contaminated sites. The successful candidate(s) will teach one or more of the following courses in the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 semesters:


BIOL 125

- Basic Ecology (LectureLab, 88.5 hours)

BIOL 127

- Botany Basics (LectureLab, 83.25 hours)

SOIL 117

- Introduction to Soil Science (LectureLab, 83.25 hours)

LAND 245

- Inventory and Assessment Techniques (Lecture, 90 hours)

LAND 255

- Land Reclamation (LectureLab, 142.5 hours)

LAND 295

- Environmental Site Assessment Technician Practicum (90 hours)

The University Arts and Sciences programming at Northern Lights College offers a wide variety of courses for students interested in working toward certificate or diploma completion at Northern Lights College or receiving transfer credit at other post-secondary institutions.

Qualifications:



Required:

Master's degree in environmental science or a closely related discipline. Proven ability to effectively instruct courses at the post-secondary level. 1-3 years of field and/or industry work experience including reclamation and remediation in northeastern BC. An understanding of shared decision making and co-management approaches to land use and planning in collaboration with Indigenous communities. Commitment to student motivation and achievement. Ability to function effectively as a team member through collaborative approaches to course pedagogy.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:

Professional technician or technologist designation such as one or more of AScT, CTECH, RTS, RPBio, or ATAg/Tag. PhD in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline. The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential. Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
