Reporting to the Patient Care Manager - Women's Health Women's Operating Room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Gynecology and Day Surgery units. The Unit Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective coordination of materials, systems, financial and human resources to ensure the provision of safe, high quality patient care in a cost-effective manner by providing innovative leadership and fostering a professional practice climate. The incumbent assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Women's Health Gynecology inpatient unit and Day Surgery outpatient unit. This includes overseeing staffing requirement, appropriate use of supplies, a consistent presence to meet the increasing demands of the units, liaison with other departments to ensure adequate resources are available, recruitment and selection of staff in collaboration. The work team is directly composed of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Unit Clerks, Health Care Aides and Service Workers.

The Unit Manager of the Women's Gynecology unit and Day Surgery Unit is a key leadership role and reports directly to the Patient Care Manager. The Unit Manager is accountable for the overall performance of inpatient care provided on 3 East and 2 South (Day Surgery) at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Edmonton. The Unit Manager ensures the delivery of safe patient care to patients recovering from gynecological surgery and is responsible and accountable for providing operational leadership and decision making in support of direct patient care including On Call responsibilities for the Women's Health portfolio. The Unit manager is also responsible for leadership of 3 East and 2 South personnel including nursing and support staff; facilitating and sustaining the learning needs of nursing and support staff in order to optimize their professional and clinical development; identifying budget requirements for the unit (human, material and capital resources) to safely meet unit and patient needs and optimize the unit workflow; resolving complex and challenging problems concerning human resources management and staffing levels in a unionized environment, to ensure adequate service levels are maintained. This position works within a leadership team and actively contributes to the Women's Health Portfolio. The Unit manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders as required providing optimal and integrated services and fostering a patient centered and trauma informed environment for all patients and families.
